This dog is adorable!
The sculpting shouldn't be difficult if you've sculpted the penguin project or felted before. It uses the Divided Stacks method so a lot of the sculpting is done on the sheet felt. As with most pre-posed profiles, the lack of separate legs and wires simplifies the process.
The Project Sheet Includes:
- A default pattern laid out for economical printing
- A second pattern that can be scaled up to 200%
- Templates for ears and face
- Detailed measurements
- Eight 3D reference images
- Tips and sculpting advice
Wool Needed:
You'll need about .5 oz of core wool and a 10" x 6" piece of acrylic sheet felt to make the default profile pattern.
What if I want a different breed with upright ears?
You can sculpt those if you wish. I do not provide templates for them but I'm sure you can handle that on your own.
What about coloring?
As with all SWiFT templates (except for the Penguin project), you're on your own for coloring. This dog can be colored to represent a Labrador retriever, Dalmatian, Weimaraner, Doberman, and other smooth and long-coated breeds. To get you started, the SWiFT Handbook has links to coloring tutorials.

Learning SWiFT
SWiFT isn't difficult, it's just different. To make it easier to create this project, your purchase includes two free downloads. The first is the SWiFT Handbook. It contains the complete SWiFT process and instruction on creating thin legs using SWiFrame.
The second is the Penguin Tutorial Project Sheet. This project is highly recommended for anyone new to needle felting. It is a complete step-by-step tutorial that includes a real-time YouTube video. You will learn the basics of SWiFT while creating a realistic penguin.
