Frequently Asked Questions

Why don’t you provide steps on finishing?

The purpose of SWiFT is sculpting the base core wool. Finishing your projects is the same as traditional felting. To help you, the SWiFT Handbook has links to some awesome finishing tutorials you can access for free or for a small fee. Future plans include partnering with tutorial creators to use SWiFT in their process. Also, creating SWiFT Project Sheets is a demanding process. Creating a full tutorial for each project would take a lot of time and severely limit the number of Project Sheets available

Can I use pillow stuffing instead of core wool?

SWiFT has only been tested on core wool. If you use other materials successfully, please post your results on the Worthy Lion SWiFT Facebook page. I may add your alternative to a future update to the Handbook.

Will you do profiles for sculptures other than animals?

I will never say “no”, but my heart is in animals. I do have plans for a few projects that will use people in some form. For example, this could be a race horse or rodeo bronc with a jockey or cowboy included as part of the profile.

Can SWiFT profiles be used for other crafts?

Yes! SWiFT is based on the process for making wood carvings, so the profiles and reference images will work fine for that.
You can also use them with polymer clay, layering each stack as if it was wool and then combining and sculpting them together.
A half-profile can be felted onto a a wet, or dry felted landscape to make a relief picture. Half-profiles also make great Christmas ornaments, mobile danglers, and refrigerator magnets.

Can I sell my SWiFT creations for profit?

Yes! One of the benefits of SWiFT is you can use lesser-skilled help to do some of the cutting and stacking while you focus on sculpting.
You can sell completed sculptures.
You cannot sell the templates themselves, or any pictures or instructions from the handbook or project sheets without a license from Worthy Lion. See Tutorial and Kit Creators for more information.

Can I pay you to create specific profiles on request?

Possibly. It depends on what I have going on (Am I between Projects?). What you want created (Will other felters want to buy the project sheet?). And when you need it done by. Contact me at WorthyLionSwift@gmail.com and I’ll see what I can do.

I don’t want to buy a bunch of Project Sheets. Can I still use SWiFT?

Yes - sort of. You can purchase one project sheet - for example a standing dog - and just use it over and over creating dogs of a similar type in a variety of positions and colors, Focusing on one type of sculpture can help you get to an expert level much more quickly.

Also, check the Worthy Lion SWiFT Facebook page for opportunities to be a beta-felter. If I don’t have time to create a core wool demo of a new project, I’ll ask 3-5 felters for help. You’ll get first access to a new project sheet for free, and if your sculpture is used in the final document, you’ll also get another free project sheet of your choosing.
