Top Quality Starter Kit ($37)
You can't go wrong with this kit. The German-made needles are top notch and the pad will get you started.
  Medium Quality Starter Kit ($24)
Everything you need and more! This deluxe kit has starter wool, pad, needles, multi-needle holders, eyes, noses, scissors, and more.
Economy Starter Kit ($10)
Everything you need to get started, except the pad. The needle quality is not great, but if you break a few, there are plenty of replacements. Note the needles are not color coded, but you can do that yourself with paint markers or nail polish.

Necessary Items

The links below will fill the gaps in your felting tool kit. Only the items directly needed for felting are included in this list.
Quality Felting Mat ($16)
This is the mat that I use.
Economy Felting Mat ($8)
This mat will get the job done. It also includes a wooden multi-needle holder but the needles included in it low quality.

High Quality Needle Set ($22)
Fifteen needles • 5 of each size • German made
These are top-of-the-line needles and are the only ones I use.
You get 5 large star, 5 medium star, and 5 small spirals.

High Quality Small Set ($12)
6 needles • 2 of each size • German made,
this is a smaller set of the above needles.
You get 2 large star, 2 medium star, and 2 small spirals.

Economy Needle Set ($17)
This set has 60(!) needles and at first glance looks like a better deal. The origin is unknown but likely China made and will break and dull easily. You do get a lot of needles in a variety of sizes and shapes.

Scissors Set ($10)
One pair is curved the other is straight. Both will get lots of use. I particularly love the curved scissors for carving core wool and snipping off fly aways.
